Short version

duckspeak.news has no user accounts, no forms, and no cookies. The only things stored on your device are your light/dark mode choice and your English/French language choice, neither of which ever leaves your browser. We use a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics tool to see aggregate traffic (which pages get read, roughly which country from), and nothing that identifies you personally.

What we store on your device

Two things, both in your browser's localStorage, each under its own key. First, clicking the light/dark toggle saves that choice. Second, switching between EN and FR, or landing on the site with a French-language browser, saves a language choice, so a French browser is offered the French version automatically on a later visit instead of every time. Neither is a cookie, neither is ever sent to our server or anyone else's, and both only affect how the site looks or which language it shows you. Clearing your browser's site data removes them; the site falls back to your system's own light/dark and language settings.

Analytics

We use a cookieless web analytics service to see overall traffic: which articles get read, which sites link to us, and rough visitor counts by country, device, and browser. It doesn't use cookies or any persistent identifier. Visitors are counted using a hash generated from the incoming request that resets every day, so it can't track you across days or across other websites, and we can't single out an individual visit. We don't run any advertising trackers, pixels, or third-party marketing scripts.

Hosting

This site is hosted by a third-party hosting provider. Like any web host, their infrastructure processes standard request data (IP address, browser type) to serve the page and keep the service secure and reliable; we don't have separate access to that beyond the anonymized analytics above.
